Where
Flour & Branch, a new premium, artisan bakery in SF, is seeking a full time Sous Pastry Chef to join our small team of pastry innovators. This is a great opportunity for an assistant pastry chef, pastry chef, or skilled baker.

As you’ll be employee #3, there’s tremendous opportunity for short term and long term growth with Flour & Branch.
Compensation is based on experience, but your compensation will grow with your level of contribution to the business. You’ll be reporting directly to our Head Pastry Chef, and will also work closely with our owner.

Your ideal start date is estimated to be on or around October 26, with initial working days expected to be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, although this may change based on the needs of the business.

In this role, you will be:

-Operating independently and assisting the Head Pastry Chef in creating a healthy and successful working environment.
-Creating pastries, baked goods, and savory items by following a set recipe.
-Monitoring stock of supplies and ingredients.
-Adhering to kitchen safety and health regulations.

Requirements / preferences:

-Certificate in culinary arts, pastry making, baking, or relevant roles.
-High School diploma or equivalent.
-Servsafe, or California equivalent food handlers certification.
-Must be legally authorized to work in the US.
-3-4 years working within the food industry as a Pastry Cook, Baker or relevant role.
-In depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation, health standards, and nutrition.
-Working knowledge of baking techniques and the pastry-making process.
-Able to lift 50 lbs and stand for long periods of time.
-Must be comfortable working across multiple positions in a start-up environment, working without supervision, and without two consecutive days off (at least initially).
-Flexible working hours, including weekends and evenings when necessary.
-Must be willing to commute to the bakery for shifts, which begin early mornings.
-Ability to multitask on several projects at a time.
-Desire to follow brand direction and collaborate with kitchen staff.
-Expert at communication and time management.
-Superb attention to detail as it pertains to the product and the customer experience.
-High standard of excellence.
-You have heart, and a solid moral compass. You have passion, you have grit, a positive attitude, a friendly demeanor, and you have a love for all things pastry!

About Flour & Branch:

Flour & Branch, Bakes and Gifts is a “delivery only” premium bakery concept opening in SF this October, which will offer local delivery and catering services to SF and surrounding areas, as well as nationwide delivery via our website. Flour & Branch will initially operate from a CloudKitchen in the Lower Mission, located between The Mission and Bayview. This kitchen only environment will serve as a secure way to grow quickly in this Covid-19 era. Long term plans include opening a brick and mortar, possibly several, expanding to wholesale and broadening the product and service offering. (hint: it’s a great time to join us!)

The initial assortment of products include artisan cookies, cheesecakes, buns, danishes, stuffed French toast, coffee, breakfast items, etc., all made with the finest ingredients available. We use Kerrygold Butter, artisan small batch flour, and locally sourced, sustainable, organic or natural ingredients where possible. Each order will feel like a gift and will be wrapped and packaged exquisitely, with the utmost attention to detail. Our owner is an industry leading marketer, we have a rock-star Head Pastry Chef that is a joy to work with, and we’ve made a significant investment in branding, packaging, e-commerce, and photography. So we’re confident that Flour & Branch will be in a class of its own.

It’s an expression of love: for food, for the sweet tastes of childhood, for fresh, natural ingredients—and for you.
